What is real?
(Or, the red pill or the blue pill?)
Carolanne positioned me with a question to ponder a few days ago…”What is real?” Simple question. On the surface. But, like any really, really, really good question, it made me dig deep within myself, examining layer after layer of the answers that bubbled up to the surface. I like to think of myself as an awake human being. Digging through the layers to the answers of this simple little question made me realize that there are also layers to waking up…layers to the levels of awakening in my own consciousness. Perhaps even layers to the levels of awakening in the fabric of reality itself. This humble, unassuming question bypassed my intellect and ego completely and went straight for my inner knowing, sending me on a mini-journey of consciousness that further awoke me out of a trance of unconsciousness.
Carolanne’s question reminded me of Morpheus from the Matrix: “What is real? How do you define real? If you’re talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then real is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain.”
Consider this: 11 million light impressions (information) come into the eyes every second. The brain can ONLY take and process 40 of those impressions every second to construct our reality. We see a tiny, tiny frequency range called visible light and call that “REALITY.” I would venture to say that we live in an INFINITE REALITY, of which we see a tiny fraction of, then mistakenly call that tiny fraction “real.”
Now is the time to open our minds. To expand our awareness to the true nature of an infinite reality. To experience ourselves as full-spectrum, infinite beings. To wake up to our unconscious belief systems that keep us trapped in pockets, and keep our minds in prison. What is real? What is reality? Do you want the blue pill or the red pill? Remember, from the Matrix, the blue pill would allow him to remain in the fabricated reality of the Matrix. The red pill would lead to his escape from the Matrix and into the “real world.”
And to quote the 1999 classic again: “The Matrix is everywhere. It is all around us. Even now, in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work… when you go to church… when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth. That you are a slave, Neo.”
It’s not just the film trilogy that proposed a universe where human beings live in a simulated reality. Interestingly, a team of physicists say that we might actually be living inside a supercomputer-generated universe called The Lattice…and we may be able to detect it. Mind-blowing, I know, but such news made headlines in December 2012: http://news.discovery.com/space/are-we-living-in-a-computer-simulation-2-121216.htm
What if the universe we live in is a computer projected hologram? How would you answer the question now: What is real?
